Living on the I-4 corridor
Polk is big and mixed. Lakeland and Winter Haven are the larger cities, Bartow is the county seat, and Haines City and Davenport have filled with families who moved out from the Orlando side. Work runs from warehouses, distribution centers and trucking to citrus groves, farms and theme park jobs a short drive east.
Warehouse and temp jobs often come with a waiting period before benefits, or none at all. Drivers and contractors buy their own. If that sounds like you, an ACA Marketplace plan is the place to start, and our cheap health insurance guide lays out the lower-cost routes honestly.

Florida Blue was the only one with PPO, EPO or POS plans. The other five sold HMOs, so you'll usually need doctors in that plan's network. Wellpoint was the only company with a Catastrophic plan here, which is for people under 30 or with a hardship exemption. The 2027 lineup can change, and your quote shows the current one.
Lakeland Regional and the other hospitals
Lakeland Regional Health is the name most people know here. BayCare and AdventHealth also run hospitals in parts of the county, around Winter Haven, Lake Wales and Davenport.
Don't pick a plan by company name. Search your doctors and the hospital you'd use in that exact plan's directory, and call to confirm. If you commute to Tampa or Orlando and want a doctor near work, check that doctor too. Your plans still come from where you live, not where you work.

ACA Marketplace
ACA prices depend on your income and age. Run the form to see your exact prices with your tax credit.
Marketplace prices depend on age, ZIP and income, and a tax credit lowers them for many people. If your job offers coverage that's affordable and meets the minimum value standard, you usually can't get that credit. The subsidies page explains the rules.
HPG is fixed indemnity and not full health insurance. It pays set amounts, for example $300 per ER day on Select 2000, whatever the bill. It has no out-of-pocket maximum, it isn't minimum essential coverage, and health questions apply.

Common questions
How many companies sold Obamacare plans in Polk County in 2026?
Six: Florida Blue, Ambetter Health, Molina Healthcare, Oscar Health, UnitedHealthcare and Wellpoint.
My ZIP is in both Polk and Osceola. Which plans do I get?
The ones for the county where your home actually is. Osceola had nine companies in 2026 and Polk had six, so the choices differ.
My warehouse job offers insurance after 90 days. What do I do until then?
If you have no other coverage, you can look at a Marketplace plan or, outside Open Enrollment, a fixed indemnity plan, which you can apply for any month. Know that fixed indemnity pays set amounts and has no out-of-pocket cap.
Can I find a plan with Lakeland Regional Health?
Networks vary by plan, so we can't promise one. Look up Lakeland Regional and your doctors in each plan's directory, or ask a licensed agent to check with you.
