Retired early, or between jobs

Many people here stop working before 65 and need a plan until Medicare. If you're leaving a job, losing that coverage opens a Special Enrollment Period. COBRA is another option, but if you drop it on purpose or stop paying it, that doesn't open a new enrollment window.

Your 2027 tax credit depends on the household income you expect for the year. Watch the line at 400% of the poverty level, which is $63,840 for one person and $86,560 for a couple. Above it there is no tax credit for 2027 under the law as it stands in October 2026. Our early retiree guide goes through the details.

Out west in Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay, much of the work is seasonal farm work and income changes from month to month. Give the Marketplace your best estimate for the year and update it when things change, because the final credit is settled on your tax return.

HPG is fixed indemnity insurance. Select 2000 pays a $2,000 admission benefit and $2,000 per hospital day, no matter how big the bill is. It has no out-of-pocket maximum, it is not minimum essential coverage, and health questions apply. If you're 60 and have ongoing conditions, an ACA plan is usually the safer choice. Common questions

Which companies sell Obamacare plans in Palm Beach County?

In 2026: Florida Blue, Ambetter Health, Molina Healthcare, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna Healthcare, Oscar Health, AvMed, Wellpoint and AmeriHealth Caritas Next. That's 9 companies with 195 plans. The 2027 list can differ.

I retired at 61 in Boca Raton. What are my choices until Medicare?

A Marketplace plan, COBRA if your old employer offers it, or a spouse's job plan. Your Marketplace tax credit depends on your 2027 household income, and above 400% of the poverty level there is none for 2027.

I spend summers up north. Does that matter?

It can. Most plans here are HMOs built around local doctors. Read how a plan covers care outside its area before you enroll.

Do Marketplace plans here include Jupiter Medical Center?

It depends on the plan and the year. Look the hospital up in each plan's provider directory before you pick one.
