Brevard County

Health insurance in Melbourne, Palm Bay and Brevard County

Brevard had seven Marketplace companies in 2026, and one of them also runs hospitals in the county. Here's how to sort it out.

Melbourne · Palm Bay · Titusville · Cocoa · Rockledge · Merritt Island

Coverage on the Space Coast

Brevard runs along the coast from Titusville and the Kennedy Space Center down through Cocoa, Merritt Island, Melbourne and Palm Bay. A lot of work here ties to launches and aerospace, often through contractors, and contracts end. Others work at Port Canaveral and the cruise terminals, in beach hotels and restaurants, or for themselves. The county also has plenty of people who retired before 65.

When a contract ends and the job plan goes with it, you usually get a 60-day Special Enrollment Period to buy a Marketplace plan. Electing COBRA is an option, but dropping it later on purpose doesn't open a new window. If you're on 1099 work between programs, see our self-employed guide.

Two things stand out. Florida Blue's 47 plans here were EPO, POS and PPO, with no HMO. And Health First, the local hospital system, also sold its own HMO plans, including a Catastrophic one. Florida Health Care Plans sold HMO and POS plans. The 2027 list can change, and your quote shows the current plans.

Health First, Parrish and your network

Health First runs several hospitals in the county, including Holmes Regional in Melbourne and Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, plus hospitals in Palm Bay and Viera. In Titusville, Parrish Medical Center is the hospital many people use.

A hospital company selling insurance doesn't mean every plan, even its own, includes every doctor you know. Check each plan's directory for your doctors and the hospital you'd want, Health First's plans included, and call the office to confirm.

ACA Marketplace

ACA prices depend on your income and age. Run the form to see your exact prices with your tax credit.

Marketplace prices depend on age, ZIP and income. For 2027, incomes from 100% to 400% of the poverty level can get a tax credit, and from 100% to 250% there are extra savings on Silver plans. See the subsidies page.

HPG is fixed indemnity, not full health insurance. Premier 5000 pays $5,000 per hospital day, for example, but a long stay or surgery can cost far more. There's no out-of-pocket maximum, it isn't minimum essential coverage, and health questions apply.
